On February 14th 2025, when everyone around the world was celebrating their definition of ‘love,” the GTJHS Best Buddies club came together to honor a deeper meaning of love.
This event featured music, interactive games, and hat painting, where club members experienced the beauty of diverse perspectives and abilities. Students played card games (with friendly competition of course), and also created musical art (drawing emotions based on music).
Not only did students participate in activities, but they also contributed a part of their unique self to the true meaning of love, which is meant to dignify every human being regardless of their physical and/or intellectual differences. Students who take part in general education joined together with students who are part of the PATS program and Learning for Life here at TJ. They created memorable artwork and joyfully shared their best dance moves on the floor.
One of the student favorite activities was the hat painting activity, where much of the club’s creative potential was unleashed and students took home many of the finished products as a keepsake from Best Buddies’ Valentines Day.
Also present at this event was Best Buddies International representative, and passionate advocate Ms. Bruce, who greatly appreciated the Best Buddies club at GTJHS and congratulated their progress so far. She spoke with advisors to learn more about the club and its impact on the wider community.
To conclude the celebration, Ms. Bruce captured a group picture of all who were gathered and remarked on the club’s unity and creativity. Thank you Ms. Bruce for your time at the TJ Best Buddies Club, and we look forward to working with you in the future!
Best Buddies Club advisors worked extremely hard to make this day special, so thank you Ms. Katita Boyd and Ms. Jaimie Wolfe for your heartfelt dedication. Thus, the Best Buddies club magnified Valentine’s Day at TJ, and spread their mission to embrace everyone, despite the date and time of the year.
But wait.. There is more! The Best Buddies club is hosting their first ever Talent Show on April 28th! The show will be during second block and is open to all students. GTJHS club representatives are also welcome to perform. If you have any questions about participating, please email Ms. Katita Boyd or Ms. Jaimie Wolfe.
